Among the essential businesses that have remained open during quarantine, delivery services, home services, eCommerce, & certain food industry segments have actually seen sales go up.

Unfortunately, this is not the case for most industries. Most business owners have taken a dip in sales & have even shut their doors due to lack of cash flow.

Looking forward, we all anticipate the re-opening of the economy. Business owners can’t wait for their customers to return. And consumers are eager to go out again.

What we have on our hands is a Petri dish for abrupt economic growth. As a business owner, you need to capitalize on such an opportunity.

However, if you haven’t been keeping up with your current customers or social media following during quarantine, then you need to start actively engaging them right now or nobody will remember you when time comes to come out of “economic hibernation”.

Here are some industries that I think will rebound quickly post-quarantine. You’ll also find some best practices for making the most of your rebound.

Full-Service Restaurants

After two months of nothing but take-out or delivery, diners are itching to sit down at a restaurant with family or friends.

In the case that you’ve been quarantined with family, then you might opt for the dinner with friends option.

Nevertheless, we often take the privilege of sit down in a restaurant & be waited on for granted. And places that used to be an ordinary meeting place for Saturday night gatherings or mid-week escapes, all of a sudden were closed off from us, leaving us to peer in from the hostess stand or sidewalk.

I am not alone when I say, “GIVE US OUR RESTAURANTS BACK!”.

Due to the passion I have for this topic, full-service restaurants are 1st on my list of industries that will rebound from COVID-19.

What can you do to boost your rebound & come back even quicker?

  • Update your listings so customers know when you will be re-opening
  • Host a party to make your Grand (re)Opening even better. Maybe some live music? Sounds like a party to me.
  • Show some love with a re-opening special for date night, family gatherings, or happy hour
  • Build some hype & kick off your re-opening by using our text message dashboard to notify your customers about your event/promotion.

Salons

  • I don’t know about you, but my at-home hair cut was sufficient. Sure! But it definitely could’ve been better. When able to, I’ll be going to the first men’s hair salon that offers a straight razor shave on the back of the neck.

    And to be honest, I don’t even care how much the haircut will cost. I usually never spend more than $30 on a haircut, but, for this one, I will definitely splurge.

    Until now, I never knew that a routine hygiene task such as getting a haircut was such a privilege. From now on, I’ll enjoy the experience much more & spend more money for the pleasure of savoring the experience.

    I doubt that I am alone in this mindset. Over the next month, people will be booking hair cuts, dyes, & manicures. Get your name out there to capture the increased demand!

What can you do to boost your rebound & come back even quicker?

    • Like restaurants, update your listings so customers know when you will be re-opening
    • Run two separate offers: an introductory offer for new customers & a loyalty offer for returning customers
    • Introduce membership plans! These were trending pre-COVID. Now’s the time to get with the program (through a membership program)
    • Run a hyper-localized Facebook Ad with said offers

Pet Grooming Services

    • COVID-19 has caused a lot of bad in the world. With that being said, there have been some indirect effects that I think are quite positive, one of them being that dog adoptions have increased.

      As a result, rescue shelters have been backed up with adoption applications & dogs are finding homes at an unprecedented rate.

      While a new pet owner has been able to go to the store to get some pet toys, food, & a crate, pet groomers have been closed in most states.

      So I guess a good grooming for both pets & owners is in order. As a result, pet groomers should see a sharp increase in the market size once regulations are lifted.

      It will be extremely important for businesses in the pet grooming industry to prioritize the attraction of new customers.

What can you do to boost your rebound & come back even quicker?

      • Update your listings to reflect your accurate business hours
      • Add any changes to service offering on your social media pages
      • Introduce an introductory offer for new pet owners
      • Offer some helpful resources for new pet owners by creating a branded eBook or brochure that your customers can take home
      • Opt your customers into our text message marketing dashboard to notify them of routine hygiene tasks & services that you offer to keep their furry friends healthy

Health & Fitness

Gyms, yoga studios, & personal trainers have taken a huge hit during COVID-19. And for good reason: public safety is paramount.

With that being said, it comes as no surprise that gyms will likely be some of the last places to formally re-open. And even then, some people will continue to steer clear of such physically involved places as a gym or yoga studio.

However, the more courageous bunch (myself included) will gladly toe the line of safety in order to gain the physical & mental benefits of exercise.

And for those people who have fallen off the health wagon during quarantine, you bet that there will be more people in the market for a gym membership or looking to try out a new form of exercise.

As you know, safety is still of the utmost importance. Therefore, once you do re-open, you must maintain close attention to cleanliness. In doing so, you’ll give your returning customers peace of mind.

  • Update your listings to reflect your accurate business hours
  • Post the steps you are taking to maintain safety as well as some guidelines for your customers when they visit your location & partake in physical activity

  • Offer a re-opening promotion to returning customers in order to retain your current clientele
